Description | | Millions of students linger through school struggling to
comprehend grade-level text. For a large percentage
of struggling readers, decoding weaknesses are one of
the primary causes of their frustration. Fixing these
issues can promote better comprehension and more
fluent reading. Therefore, functional strategies and
targeted instruction are key components to
successfully helping these strugglers.
This workshop is designed to efficiently deliver the
background knowledge needed to successfully
diagnose, group, and teach emerging and struggling
readers in grades 1-12. Educators will leave our
workshops with:
• An understanding of why students struggle with
decoding and the impact this has on comprehension
• Tools and knowledge needed to effectively diagnose
decoding issues in students of all ages
• Resources to group students successfully for
instruction that will yield the greatest improvements
• Functional teaching strategies to provide age/grade-
appropriate decoding instruction in grades 1-12
• Progress monitoring tools to measure growth and
adjust as needed
• How to use student manipulatives to engage
students and boost their achievement
Julie Sealine from Really Great Reading will be presenting.
This will be an in person only event. Lunch will be one hour on your own.
Title II-A stipends will be given to staff who are members of the ESU 7 Title II-A Consortium.
