| Description | | Author and educator Elise White-Diaz will be leading this session to assist district and building administrators as well as English Learner program coordinators in building strong, systems-level supports for English Learners. The afternoon will feature breakout sessions led by both Elise White-Diaz and ESU personnel to assist administrators in becoming more familiar with English Learner data, strategies, and tools to help students thrive in both language and content learning.
Topics will include ideas for:
-Developing responsive newcomer placement processes that work for elementary, middle, and high school
-Creating flexible schedules and class structures that can expand or contract throughout the year
-Identifying high-impact, practical instructional moves for newcomers and Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE)
-Offering just-in-time professional learning that doesn’t rely on substitutes
-Lowering stress and burnout for teachers and support staff
-Utilizing current research to improve newcomer engagement, belonging, and graduation pathways
Title III stipends and mileage reimbursement will be given to staff who are employed by Title III Consortium districts. FREE for those within ESU 7 and within the Title III Consortium. $50 materials fee for all others. Lunch will be one hour off-campus, on your own. |
