DescriptionWhat You Will Learn
Selecting assistive technology is more than finding a device or app. It is a team-based process for identifying barriers, matching features to student needs, trying potential solutions, and using data to make informed decisions.
In this hands-on training, participants will work through realistic student case studies spanning elementary through transition-age settings. You will practice identifying what students need to do, examining barriers within the student, environment, and task, and translating those barriers into features needed in potential AT solutions.
The training will also connect AT evaluation, consideration, implementation, and services to the IEP, including documentation, training and implementation supports, use within the PK-12 general curriculum, and transition-age considerations.
Learning Objectives
1.  Use a structured AT decision-making process to identify student needs, relevant tasks, environmental factors, and barriers to participation and performance.
2.  Translate identified barriers into needed AT features and use those features to identify potential tools and solutions for trial.
3.  Plan and evaluate meaningful AT trials using appropriate supports, clearly defined goals, and data focused on the potential effectiveness of the AT.
4.  Use AT trial data to make informed team decisions and document AT within the IEP, including needed devices, services, training, and implementation supports.
5.  Plan for effective AT use within multiple contexts.

Leave with a practical process you can use with IEP teams - and a clearer path for getting additional AT assistance when you need it.
